Small towns are usually known for big things – Listowel, Ontario is no exception as we proudly host the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in North America from March 8th to the 17th, capturing the essence of a positive outlook on life and community spirit.
Since 1977, Listowel’s annual Paddyfest event continues to be a vibrant and lively expression of Irish and Listowel culture, filled with parades, music, and, of course, a strong sense of community. Amidst the sea of green, there’s a special connection to charity and community support that makes Paddyfest in Listowel stand out.
Being North America’s largest St. Patrick’s day celebration is no small feat and certainly couldn’t be what it is today without the indefatigable efforts of the Kinsmen Club of Listowel, the local sponsors and volunteers, and of course, the attendees!
Beyond the celebrations, the green beer in Listowel serves a higher purpose than a good time — each dollar spent at Paddyfest goes into the community Pot O’ Gold and directly to charitable causes close to the community’s heart.
At Van Allen Insurance we have taken a leading role in this aspect by channeling our efforts towards fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis, the most common fatal genetic disease affecting children and young adults in Canada – which currently has no cure.
We do this because of the Van Allen family’s personal connection to Cystic Fibrosis, adding a poignant layer to their involvement in Paddyfest. Sarah and Shane Van Allen, co-owners of Van Allen Insurance, have a son named Wade who is living with Cystic Fibrosis. Since Wade’s diagnosis Sarah and Shane have become passionate advocates for raising awareness and funds to support research and care for individuals with Cystic Fibrosis. Through their tireless efforts, such as sponsoring Paddyfest events, hosting an annual CF BBQ and preparing for a 2nd annual CF Gala in spring 2024, the Van Allen Family, the team at Van Allen Insurance, the Kinsmen and Kinettes of Listowel, and all who donate have become an integral part of the community’s ongoing commitment to making a difference for families experiencing Cystic Fibrosis and hopeful for a cure.
Finding a cure is a more tangible reality each year because of fundraising initiatives like Paddyfest. This March, Van Allen Insurance is sponsoring the wildly entertaining Bingo and Vegas Casino Nights – events which not only bring people together for a night of laughter and excitement but the proceeds of which directly support Cystic Fibrosis research and care.
